Okidata 292/293 Switch Settings for Paintbrush (34108)

This article was previously published under Q34108

SUMMARY

Several types of personality modules are available for Okidata Printers. A personality module enables the printer to emulate other types of printers. To print successfully, choose the printer driver that corresponds with the personality module you are using and be sure that your printer settings are correct.

The following is a description of the switch settings and driver combinations for the Microline Personality Module and the IBM Personality Module.

This information applies to Microsoft Paintbrush version 2.00 for MS-DOS systems.

MORE INFORMATION

If you are using the Microline-compatible Personality Module, choose the Okidata printer driver. To print in color, change the default settings on the printer by going into program mode (press the Form Feed button while turning on the printer). You must change the following two settings:

Option From To
Graphics 7/8 Bit 7 8
Color BLK RBN BLK

If you are using the IBM-compatible Personality Module and a color ribbon, the Epson JX driver will print fairly well. The Color option must be changed from BLK RBN to BLK. Please note that this configuration will leave white horizontal lines between each print head pass. There is no workaround for this problem.

If color printing is not important, the Epson FX or IBM Graphics printer driver can be used. If you use a color ribbon, change the Color option as mentioned above. If you use a black ribbon, the default BLK RBN is fine. Both of these drivers have their own methods of gray/pattern scaling.
