Pass-through authentication to UNC virtual directories can be enabled through the IIS Manager (332151)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Information Services version 6.0
This article was previously published under Q332151 SUMMARYIn Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, pass-through
authentication to UNC virtual directories cannot be configured in the Internet
Services Manager (ISM). In IIS 6.0, the IIS Manager contains a check box that
permits you to omit the user name and password. If no user name and password
are specified, IIS uses the requesting user credentials when you are using an
authentication method that can perform delegation to authenticate to the remote
share.MORE INFORMATION The metabase key that is used in IIS 5.0 to enable
pass-through authentication is UNCAuthenticationPassthrough. In IIS 6.0, this metabase key is not used for UNC
authentication. The metabase properties UNCUserName and UNCPassword are still used.
Note Pass-through authentication only works for authentication methods
that can perform delegation, such as Basic and Kerberos.
You can
still set a static user account and password to connect to the resource. For
more information, see the product documentation references in the "References"
section.REFERENCESMore information about securing virtual directories that are
mapped to UNC shares is available in the product documentation. To view this
