Work duration is calculated by eight hours per day, even if working hours are changed in Microsoft Project 2002 (331973)

SYMPTOMS

After you change the length of a working day on a project (for example to create a five-hour work day), when you log into Project Web Access (PWA), click Projects, and then view the Duration field, PWA still calculates working hours based on an eight-hour day. This problem occurs even if the Enterprise Global Calendar was configured to a five-hour work day.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The global version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note After you apply this fix, you must check out and update the Enterprise Global Calendar. Changing the local calendar in the project will have no effect.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the start and end time in the project calendar. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Tools, click Options, and then click Calendar.
  2. Change the Default start time to the beginning of the work day.
  3. Change the Default end time to the end of the work day.
  4. Click OK to accept the changes.
  5. Click Tools, and then click Change Working Time.
  6. Select the days of the project.
  7. Click Nondefault working time.
  8. In the From field, type the start time.
  9. In the To field, type the end time.
  10. Click OK to accept the changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
