OL2002: The "IExchExtCommands::DoCommand" Return Is Not Handled (331908)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002 Service Pack 2 (SP-2)

This article was previously published under Q331908

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Exchange Command Extensions may not work as expected in Outlook 2002.

The way that Microsoft Outlook handles the return of Exchange Command Extensions has changed in Outlook 2002. The following MAPI information describes how Exchange Command Extensions work in Outlook 2002 and Microsoft Outlook 2000:

Outlook 2000

  • Returning S_OK (On DoCommand) means that the command has been handled by the Exchange Command Extensions. Outlook 2000 follows the MAPI rules for DoCommand handling, and stops the Exchange Command Extensions processing.
  • Returning S_FALSE means the command has not been handle by the Exchange Command Extensions, and you are forwarded to the other Command Extensions until it is handled.

Outlook 2002

  • Outlook 2002 does not follow the MAPI rules for DoCommand handling, and still process the Exchange Command Extensions after returning S_OK (On DoCommand).
  • Returning S_FALSE means the command has not been handle by the Exchange Command Extensions, and you are forwarded to the other Command Extensions until it is handled.
For more information about how Outlook 2002 works with Exchange Command Extensions, see the following MSDN Web site:
