The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
This article was previously published under Q331900 SYMPTOMSWhen you try to use the Writing Pad feature of the Tablet PC Input Panel to send handwriting to target programs, the Send button may appear blank. When you tap the small arrow beside the Send button, the list may be empty, or there may be no response. If you tap Tools, tap Options, and then tap the Write Anywhere tab, the tab may be blank. If you try use the Tools menu to turn on speech, the speech option is not available. CAUSE This problem occurs when advanced text services are turned off for the whole system. These services are required
for Input Panel, Windows Journal, and other Tablet PC related
features to function correctly. Because of this dependency, Microsoft recommends that you do not turn off advanced text services. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, turn on advanced text services. To do so, follow these steps: - In Control Panel, double-tap Regional and Language
Options.
- Tap the Languages tab.
- Tap Details.
- Under Installed services, verify that the following
advanced text services are installed:
- Tablet PC Correction
- Tablet PC Correction for Windows Journal
- Tablet PC Text Insertion
If these services are not listed, tap Add, and
then add the missing services from the More Text Services list.
- Tap the Advanced tab.
- Tap to clear the Turn off advanced text services check box.
- Tap to select the Extend support of advanced text services to all
programs check box.
- Tap OK, and restart the computer.
The Send button and the Write Anywhere tab are not blank, and the Speech option is now available in the Tablet PC Input Panel.
