PPT2002: PowerPoint Quits When You Work with Underscore Characters (331794)

SYMPTOMS

In PowerPoint 2002, if you type underscore characters (_) or press BACKSPACE to delete underscore characters, PowerPoint 2002 may unexpectedly quit.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use any of the French language dictionaries.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office XP product name Public Update that contains this hotfix.
