There are long delays when you select to Build Team from Enterprise in Microsoft Project (331672)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Build Team from Enterprise command (on the Tools menu) to view a list of resources, you may experience a long delay while the resources are loaded into the view.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • There are many resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool.
  • The total number of resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool is less than 1,000. The number 1,000 is the resource pre-filter limit.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Project 2002 Service Pack 1.

After you install the fix, you must change a registry key to activate the fix. WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To activate this fix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Project.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate the following registry key, and then and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\MS Project

  5. With the MS Project key selected, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD.
  6. Type PrefilterLimit, and then press ENTER.
  7. Right-click PrefilterLimit, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type a numeric value that is less than 1,000, and then click OK.

    This value determines when the Prefilter dialog box opens after the Build Team from Enterprise command is used. By default, the Prefilter dialog box opens if the total number of resources is 1,000 or more.
  9. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Project 2002 Service Pack 1.
