URLDownloadToCacheFile May Cause OnStopBinding to Incorrectly Receive an S_FALSE Status (331341)

SYMPTOMS

When you download a file through the URLDownloadToCacheFile function, the IBindStatusCallback::OnStopBinding function may receive an incorrect status of S_FALSE in its first parameter even though the file has been successfully downloaded.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 6 service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1. This problem does not occur on other versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer, including Internet Explorer 6.0.
