Incorrect and misleading error message if initial catalog information is missing or incorrect (331314)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q331314
Note:This article also applies to Host Integration Server 2000, Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 with TCP/IP, and after you click the Test Connection button, you receive the following error message:
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider - RDB name not found or RDB name does not match Remote LU name.

SQLSTATE: HY000, SQLCODE: -360
NOTE: Although the cause for this behavior is described in the "Cause" section, this error message is misleading and incorrect. If the OLE DB Provider for DB2 is configured to use a TCP/IP connection, the error message is incorrect in refering to a "remote LU name". The remote LU name is used only if the provider is configured to use an Advanced Program to Program Communication (APPC) connection.

CAUSE

The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 requires an Initial Catalog value when configuring this data link. If this value is left blank, or if an incorrect value is present, you receive the error message.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use the correct Initial Catalog. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
