This occurs only when you use the browser-based Web Discussions toolbar. CAUSE

This issue may occur if both of the following conditions exist:
  • The text that you type contains more than 255 characters.
  • You are using the browser-based Web Discussions toolbar.
The Discussion text box in the browser-based Web Discussions toolbar of SharePoint Team Services is limited to 255 characters.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, install and use the Office XP Web Discussions toolbar. By default, this component is installed when you perform a typical installation of Office XP. To install the Web Discussions feature of Office XP if you did not install it when you installed Office XP:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of currently installed programs, click Microsoft Office XP , and then click Change.
  4. Click Add or Remove Features - Change which features are installed or remove specific features, and then click Next.
  5. In the Features to install box, expand Office Tools, expand Microsoft SharePoint Support, click the down arrow next to Web Discussions, and then click Run from My Computer.
  6. Click Update.
  7. Click OK when you receive the message that your installation of Office updated successfully.
