FIX: ISA Reports May Contain Negative Numbers in the 'All Others' Row (331067)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 SP1

This article was previously published under Q331067

SYMPTOMS

When you view HTML reports, Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server report may show large negative numbers in the All Others row and percentage numbers that do not add up to 100 percent. The report may also include rows with duplicate key names. This may occur when you view reports that are generated from monthly or yearly summary files. Reports that are generated from daily summary files do not have the problem. The default number of daily summaries saved is 36.

CAUSE

During the multiplexing of daily summaries into one monthly summary file or of monthly summaries into a yearly summary file, ISA may sort the tables incorrectly if the active locale is one of the following:
  • Danish
  • Norwegian (Bokmal)
  • Norwegian (Nynorsk)
For strings in these locales, the character "aa" is interpreted as the accented character "å". Because this letter comes after "z" in the alphabet, a locale-dependent string comparison function may break the sorting algorithm and include multiple rows with the same name. When a report is then created, the report (.irp) file may include multiple rows with the same name, including the Total row. If multiple Total rows exist, ISA may calculate the percentage numbers incorrectly and show negative numbers in the All Others row.

The string comparison function is dependent on the active locale that is running on the system. By default, this is the SYSTEM locale if no one has logged on to the computer, or it is the locale of the user that last logged on to the system. You can set the SYSTEM locale to another locale, but this may not be enough because the active locale may change when a user logs on.

With the hotfix installed, the sorting algorithm is not affected by the active locale, and summary files are generated correctly.

Note The hotfix only fixes monthly or yearly summary files that are generated after the hotfix has been installed. Old monthly and yearly summary files may still have tables with multiple key rows.
