Limited User Cannot Delete RunOnce Registry Entry (331030)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000

This article was previously published under Q331030

SYMPTOMS

If an Administrator or an application (or both) enters a value into the RunOnce key in the registry, and then a Limited User logs in to the system, the RunOnce key will be processed, but the RunOnce entry will not be deleted.

When an Administrator logs back in to the system, the RunOnce key will be processed, and then the entry is deleted. If the application that is being referenced in the RunOnce key is no longer present on the system, the Administrator may receive an error, but the key will be removed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Limited Users do not have security access to modify any system files or restricted registry settings.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design.
