SUMMARY

When you synchronize your PocketPC device with Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002 or with Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server, you may receive error messages on your PocketPC device or in the Nextags log file.

The following list describes the DEV_ error codes that you may receive on your PocketPC device or in the Nextags log file. This list shows the error messages, explains their meanings, and suggests actions that you can take to resolve the issues.

These DEV_ error codes show that you received the error message from the synchronization read-only memory (ROM) that is on the device because of the Microsoft Server ActiveSync client update.
  • DEV_1
(E_SYNC_OUTOFDISK): Synchronization failed. You do not have enough free memory on your device to synchronize information. Delete unused files from your device or close programs that are running to free up memory, and then try again.
    Explanation: You have insufficient memory.

User Action: The storage memory holds all the programs that are loaded in random access memory (RAM) on the PocketPC device. Programs that are running use the program memory. The shell allocates storage and program memory. The shell may close programs to free program memory. You can also manually close programs. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Settings.
    2. Click System.
    3. Click Memory.
    4. Click Running Programs.
    5. Quit the nonessential programs.
Additionally, remove unnecessary programs that have been loaded to free storage memory.
  • DEV_2
(E_FAIL_CONNECTION_TIMEOUT): Synchronization cannot be completed successfully due to a server time out. Disconnect, reconnect and try again.
Explanation: You may receive this error message if the server does not respond to a command that the device sends. For example, a GetItemEstimate call to the Microsoft Exchange server causes a timeout.

User Action: Perform the synchronization at a later. Additionally, verify the value of the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ MasSync\Parameters\ExchTimeoutThreshold

  • DEV_3
    (E_FAIL_ABORT): You have stopped synchronization.
Explanation: You may receive this error message when you disconnect the connection that you were using for synchronization. For example, if you connect by using a Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) modem, and you click Disconnect in the middle of a Server ActiveSync session, you may receive this error message.

User Action: Reconnect to the connection that you were using for synchronization, and then perform the synchronization again.
  • DEV_6
(E_FAIL_SERVER): Sync failed due to server side reason but no server originated error code received, or any other unknown server errors.
  • DEV_7
(E_FAIL_CONVERSION_DEVICE): Error in writing an item's properties to the database.
  • DEV_8
(E_PURGE_ERROR): Sync key data is not valid since a data purge failed.
  • DEV_9
(E_FAIL_CONN_INFO_ABSENT): Required connection information not present.
  • DEV_10:
Synchronization failed because the device timed out waiting for the server to respond. Try again later.
Explanation: You may receive this error message when the device times out while trying to establish a connection with the server.

User Action: Perform the synchronization later.
