CAUSE
This problem may occur if all the following conditions are true:
- The Exchange environment contains both Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server computers, where multiple messaging databases exist on an Exchange 2000 Server computer.
- A distribution list contains users whose mailboxes are stored on different messaging databases.
- A user whose mailbox is stored on an Exchange Server 5.5 computer sends a message to the distribution list.
When the store transfers a message that is sent to users whose mailboxes are stored on different messaging databases to the Message Transfer Agent (MTA), it converts the message from Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) to MAPI format and uses the
PR_DISPLAY_TYPE and the
PR_OBJECT_TYPE properties to determine whether the recipient of the message is a distribution list or a user. However, as Exchange Server 5.5 does not pass the
PR_OBJECT_TYPE and the
PR_DISPLAY_TYPE properties, the recipient is by default determined to be a user, and a distribution list template is not used.
