XCCC: You May Be Able to Overbook Resources on the Exchange Conferencing Server (330348)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server SP3
This article was previously published under Q330348 SYMPTOMS When you book online meetings on the Exchange 2000
Conferencing Server, you may be able to overbook a resource. CAUSE This problem may occur because Conference Management
service (CMS) publishes conferencing resources asynchronously .
When
the Conferencing Server starts, it processes the meetings that are scheduled on
the global calendar, and then determines the resources that are available. This
process occurs asynchronously, meaning that the process may occur at the same
time that the rest of the conferencing services start. This asynchronous
process makes it possible for a user to schedule a new meeting by using a
resource that may not be available. This process results in a conflict or
overbooking. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, the conferencing administrator
must monitor the Event Viewer Application log to make sure that conferences
have not been scheduled before the resource calculations have completed.
The following event ID message is logged in the Application log when
resource calculations start: Event ID: 16388
Source: MSExchangeCONF Category: CMS Internal Description: The Conference
Management Service is updating the availability of existing conference
resources. Scheduling online meetings during this time can cause resources to
be overbooked. User Action Wait until the update is complete before scheduling
a meeting. The following event is logged when resource calculations
