XADM: "The T.120 MCU Service Couldn't Be Stopped" Error Message When You Try to Install Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server Service Pack 1 (330322)

If you try to upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server Service Pack 1 (SP1), you receive an error message similar to the following when the Exchange Conferencing Server Setup program tries to stop the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU):
The T.120 MCU service couldn't be stopped. Please verify that you have the correct permissions to stop services.
This problem occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
- You use the following Windows Installer command to perform the upgrade:
msiexec /fvemus "microsoft exchange 2000 conferencing server.msi" - You run the Windows Installer command from the folder that contains the SP1 files.
This problem occurs even though you use an account that has the correct permissions to perform the upgrade.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the MCU service does not stop quickly enough.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.
Method 1: Retry the Command
Run the Exchange Conferencing Server SP1 Setup program again. If the problem recurs, go to method 2.
Method 2: Stop the MCU Service from the Command Prompt
Run the following command from a command prompt to stop the MCU service:
net stop "microsoft exchange t.120 mcu"
If you can stop the MCU service successfully, run the Exchange Conferencing Server SP1 Setup program again.
If you cannot to stop the MCU service, go to method 3.
Method 3: End the XT120MCU.exe Process- Install the Windows 2000 Support Tools if they are not already installed.For additional information about how to install the Windows 2000 Support Tools, click the article number below

- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
- Type the following command, and then press ENTER to view the processes that are currently running:
- Note the numeric value that corresponds to the Xt120mcu.exe process.
- Type the following command, and then press ENTER to end the Xt120mcu.exe process, where pidvalue is the numeric value that you noted in step 5:
- Rerun the Exchange Conferencing Server SP1 Setup program.
