Upgrade Advisor Reports a Blocking Issue with SecuRemote When You Upgrade to Windows XP (330251)

This article was previously published under Q330251 SYMPTOMS When you try to upgrade your computer from any of the
following operating systems to Windows XP, the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor may
report a blocking issue with SecuRemote that prevents the upgrade:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
You may continue to experience this behavior after you use the
Add/Remove Programs tool to remove SecuRemote from your computer.
CAUSE This issue may occur if either of the following conditions
exist:
- The Check Point Software Technologies "SecuRemote" Virtual
Private Networking (VPN) client software is installed on your
computer.
- You removed the SecuRemote program from your computer, but
one or more copies of the SecuRemote Fwenc.exe file remain on your hard
disk.
RESOLUTION To resolve this issue:
- If you have already used the Add/Remove Programs tool in
Control Panel to remove SecuRemote from your computer, do not complete the rest
of step 1, and go to step 2. If you have not already used the Add/Remove
Programs tool in Control Panel to remove SecuRemote from your computer:
- Click Start, point to
Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- In the list of currently installed programs, click the
entry for the SecuRemote program, and then click
Add/Remove.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to remove SecuRemote
from your computer.
- Make sure that the Fwenc.exe file no longer remains on your
hard disk:
- NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps.
Click
Start, point to Search, and then click
For Files and Folders. - In the Search for files or folders
named box, type fwenc.exe, and then click
Search Now.
- Delete each Fwenc.exe file that is found.
- Run Windows XP Setup.
