SUMMARY

This article describes how to upgrade a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) server after the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a (SP3a).

MORE INFORMATION

Companies and users of SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition (SQL Server CE) that have upgraded their SQL Server 2000 database and publisher servers to the SQL Server 2000 SP3 or the SQL Server 2000 SP3a release must also update the server replication components on the servers that are running Internet Information Services (IIS).

To update the server replication components, you can use a service update that has been released by Microsoft.

For SQL Server CE version 2.0

If you are using SQL Server CE version 2.0, after you upgrade the SQL Server databases to SQL Server 2000 SP3 or to SQL Server 2000 SP3a, you must install Sqlce20sql2ksp3.exe or Sqlce20sql2ksp3a.exe to the servers that are running IIS if:
  • The computer that is running SQL Server is not the computer that is running IIS.
  • The computer that is running SQL Server is the same one that is running IIS, but that computer did not have the SQL Server CE tools installed on it before the SQL Server 2000 SP3 or the SQL Server 2000 SP3a installation started to run.

For SQL Server CE version 1.1

If you are using SQL Server CE version 1.1, after you upgrade the SQL Server databases to SQL Server 2000 SP3, you must install Sqlce11sql2ksp3.exe to the servers that are running IIS if:
  • The computer that is running SQL Server is not the computer that is running IIS.
  • The computer that is running SQL Server is the same one that is running IIS, but that computer did not have the SQL Server CE tools installed on it before the SQL Server 2000 SP3 installation started to run.
Note You do not have to apply the service update if the computer that is running SQL Server is the same as the one that is running IIS and it did have the SQL Server CE tools installed on it before the SQL Server 2000 SP3 or the SQL Server 2000 SP3a update installation started to run. The service update does not contain any updates for the SQL Server CE Server Agent .dll file.

You can also use the service update to set up a new server to run IIS. In this case, you do not have to install any other version of SQL Server CE tools before you run the service update.
