Windows Does Not Start After You Apply Security Roll Up Package Q319733 (329894)

Package Q319733, you may receive the following error message when the computer
restarts: The Procedure entry point LsaOpenPolicySce
could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll. When
you click OK, the computer restarts and you may receive the following error
message: System Process C:\Winnt\System32\Lsass.exe
terminated unexpectedly with status code 128. The system will now shut
down and restart. You receive this error message every time the
computer restarts. CAUSE This issue may occur after you install the Q319733 Security
Roll Up Package using Windows Update. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, use one of the methods that is
described in this section. Method 1: Replace the Advapi32.dll File- Start the computer by using the Windows 2000 Setup disks or
the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press R to repair,
and then press C to start the Recovery Console.
- Enter the number for the appropriate Windows 2000
installation, and then type the Administrator account password.
- Type cd \winnt\$ntuninstallq319733$,
and then press ENTER.
- Type copy advapi32.dll
c:\winnt\system32\advapi32.dll, and then press ENTER.
- When you are prompted to overwrite the file, press Y, and
then press ENTER.
- Remove the disk that you used in step 1 from the drive,
restart the computer, and then start Windows.
- Reapply all the previously installed service packs and
hotfixes.
Method 2: Reinstall the Q319733 Security Roll Up Package To download and install the package, visit the following
Microsoft Web site: Method 3: Repair Windows- Start your computer from the Windows 2000 Setup disks or
from the Windows 2000 CD.
- On the Windows 2000 Server Setup screen, press ENTER to
continue installing Windows.
- On the Welcome to Setup screen, press R (repair Windows
2000 installation), and then press R again to repair Windows using the
emergency repair process.
- Press M to select Manual Repair, and then
press the UP ARROW key, the DOWN ARROW key, and the ENTER key to clear the X
characters next to the first option (Inspect startup
environment) and the third option (Inspect boot
sector) . After you do so, only the second option is selected
(Verify Windows 2000 system files).
- Use the arrow keys to select Continue (perform
selected tasks), and then press ENTER.
- If you have an emergency repair disk (ERD), press ENTER. If
not, press L and Setup will locate the Windows installation.
- Press ENTER to examine the local drives.
- When the computer restarts, repeat steps 3 to 6, and then
press A to repair all files.
- Remove the disk you used to start Windows Setup from the
drive, restart the computer, and then start Windows.
- Reapply all previously installed service packs and
hotfixes.
