Download and install the Links 2003 update
The Links 2003 update addresses many video issues. To download and
install the update, or for more information about the update, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
Note To download the Links 2003 Update version 1.02 from this Web site, type
Links 2003 in the
Keywords box under
Search for a Download, and then click
Go.
- When you use a PCI video adapter, you may experience
performance problems. To resolve this issue, upgrade to a faster PCI video
adapter or an AGP video adapter.
Note AGP video adapters are designed to be faster than PCI adapters,
and more efficient with 3D graphics. - When the anti-aliasing feature is enabled, you may see
graphical abnormalities such as a missing golfer, or an unexpected switch to
Heads Up Display (HUD).
Note When you enable the anti-aliasing feature, the video adapter
renders the image at a resolution that is two to four times larger than the
current screen resolution, and then it reduces the resolution of the image to
match the current screen resolution. This softens the jagged edges of any
diagonal lines in the image, but it also can significantly slow down your frame
rate. - When you try to use Links 2003 in Window mode, you may
experience slower game play than in Full-Screen mode. This behavior may occur
if your video adapter does not have enough video memory to support both your
desktop resolution and the resolution of Links 2003 in a window. To resolve
this issue, lower your desktop screen resolution. To do so:
- In Control Panel, double-click Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Drag the Screen resolution slider to a
lower resolution level.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Leader boards may not render correctly from a distance when
you play in 16-bit color. This behavior may occur with TNT2 and a GeForce 2
video adapters.
- When you play Links 2003, you may find that golfer
animations are missing from the game. For example, the golfer is not displayed
in the Create Player wizard when you try to create a new player, or the golfer
is not displayed on the course. This behavior can occur if the video driver for
your video adapter is outdated. To resolve this behavior, install the latest
video driver that is available for your video adapter. Contact your hardware
manufacturer for more information about how to do this or to ask about the
latest drivers for your video adapter.

How to troubleshoot sound-related issues
back to the
topMake sure that your video hardware meets the game requirements
If a video adapter does not meet the game requirements, you may
receive an error message that is similar to one of the following error
messages:
3D acceleration is disabled.
Links is running without 3D acceleration. You
cannot start a game without 3D acceleration. To change your setting, click on Options, then on Graphics Settings. You may need to update your video driver or upgrade to a better
video card. To resolve this issue, enable DirectDraw and Direct3D.
To enable DirectDraw or Direct3D, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe):
- Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
- On the Display tab, make sure that DirectDraw acceleration and Direct3D
acceleration are enabled. If they are not enabled, enable them.
- If multiple video adapters are installed in your computer,
make sure that DirectDraw acceleration and Direct3D acceleration are enabled on
all video adapters.
Note If the DirectDraw option is unavailable, your video adapter may not be DirectX
compatible.
To check the DirectDraw Interface (DDI) version:
- Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag In the Open box, and then click OK.
- Click Save All Information to save a Dxdiag.txt report file.
- Click Desktop, and then click Save.
- Double-click the Dxdiag.txt file on your desktop, and then
locate the "Display Devices" section.
- Find the "DDI Version" line.
- This line must read 8 (or higher) for Links 2003 to function correctly. If this value is lower than
8, download new drivers for your video adapter, or upgrade to a new video
adapter.
To verify that the video adapter contains enough memory:
- Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
- On the Display tab, verify that the approximate total memory is equal to or
greater than 16 megabytes (MB). The video adapter must have a minimum of 16 MB
for Links 2003 to function correctly. If it does not, upgrade your video
adapter.
Note Because of video memory that may be in use at the time you run
the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe), this line may read less than the
actual total. For example, 7.5 MB may appear when you have an 8.0 MB video
adapter.
To identify your video adapter:
- Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Click the Display or Display 1 tab.
- Under Name, note the model of your video adapter.

Issue 4When you play Links 2003, the ball and aiming markers are not visible in the Top Cam view.
This issue occurs even after you disable the Dynamic Camera view. To work around
this issue, open another Camera view. After you open a different camera view, such as the Side Cam view, the ball and the aiming marker will be visible in the Top Cam view. After this shot is completed and the next screen is rendered, the issue with Top Cam
will reappear. Close and open the Side Cam view or another camera view again.
Issue 5When you try to move the Top Cam window, the camera view may freeze. You can move the Window after a couple of tries.
Issue 6After you set the power and swing settings, the game freezes periodically before
displaying the swing.
This issue occurs when the Dynamic Camera view is enabled and any option other than
Show Smart view is selected.
NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go
If your computer uses an NVIDIA Geforce 460 Go video adapter,
you may find that the game does not recognize that you have a 3D accelerator.
This behavior occurs if the Videocard.txt file does not contain an entry for
the video adapter. To resolve this behavior, add an entry for the NVIDIA
Geforce 460 Go to the Videocard.txt file. To do so:
- Determine the DeviceID for your video adapter in the
Dxdiag.txt file:
- Click Start, click
