WD2000: Templates That Contain ActiveX Controls Become Corrupted (329810)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q329810
When you use Microsoft Word 2000, templates that contain Active X controls suddenly become corrupted. You may experience the following symptoms:
  • The names of ActiveX controls are missing from the object list in the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Editor and when you view the file in DocFile Viewer.
  • The ActiveX controls are not available in the VBA Editor and the ActiveX controls are not available in the document. When you switch to Design Mode, and then you try to view the properties of such a control, Word 2000 displays the properties of the ThisDocument object instead.
  • While you are working in the document, you receive the following error message:
Can't exit design mode because Control 'Commandbutton1' can not be created

Note In this error message, the words "can not" are a misspelling for the word "cannot."
