SYMPTOMS

If an account is locked out because of several bad password attempts and you then run a script to change the account's PasswordRequired property, the account may be unlocked when you view it in the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in after you run the script.

For example, this problem may occur after you run the following sample Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition script:

Set usr = GetObject("LDAP://CN=user1,CN=Users,DC=XXX,DC=XXX")
usr.PasswordRequired = True
usr.SetInfo

CAUSE

When the flag is written, the locked-out status is not preserved.
