FIX: MSPersist does not handle special characters such as carriage returns or line feed correctly (329791)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7 SP1
This article was previously published under Q329791 SYMPTOMS When you try to fetch data that contains special characters
such as carriage returns or line feed by using Microsoft ADO and the Microsoft
Data Access OLE DB Persistence Provider (MSPersist),
users may receive the following error message: Run-time
error '-2147467259 (80004005)': An invalid character was found in text content.
CAUSE This behavior occurs because Microsoft Data Access OLE DB
Persistence Provider (MSPersist) invokes Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML)
3.0 in Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7. MSPersist invokes MSXML 2.6 in MDAC 2.6. MSXML 3.0 enforces
the XML spec wherein it does not permit characters below 0x20H, with some
exceptions.RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
