PRJ2002: Project Does Not Publish or Update the Status for Tasks with a Special Character in the Notes (329760)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Collaborate, and then click Email Only to publish a project, an e-mail message may not be sent. This symptom may appear to only occur when you attach a large note to the e-mail message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you insert a special character (such as the "square" character ASCII 0x01) at the end of a long note.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Project 2002 service pack that contains this fix.

WORKAROUND

To work around these symptoms, either remove the notes before you send the message, or remove the special character from the note before you send the message.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
