FIX: Application Center 2000 MMC Stops Responding with 100 Percent CPU Usage When You Use "Connect As" (329744)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to a cluster from the Application Center Microsoft Management Console (MMC) by using the Connect as option, the MMC stops responding (hangs), and the processor use registers 100 percent.

You can reproduce this locally on any member or controller or remotely with the Application Center 2000 Administrative client installed.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Application Center service pack that contains this hotfix.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the Application Center 2000 MMC from the cluster controller or from one member.
  2. Right-click the current cluster, and then click Disconnect.
  3. Right-click the Application Center snap-in, and then click Connect.
  4. Type the cluster controller name.
  5. Click to select the Connect as check box.
  6. Enter administrative credentials (user name, password, and domain).
  7. Click OK.
