This article discusses an incident in which the program stops responding that can have the following error signatures:

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a project plan in a consolidated project and copy tasks from the inserted project plan, Project 2002 may stop responding, and you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Project has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the error listed at the beginning of this article.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if all the following conditions are true:
  • The consolidated project contains one or more inserted plans.
  • You select one or more task (rows) from an inserted plan.
  • You click Copy Task on the Edit menu or press Ctrl+C to copy the task.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Project 2002 Service Pack 1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Project 2002 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

The inserted projects plans that are in a consolidated project may retain the links to their source projects. Therefore, all changes to the inserted project plans in the consolidated project are passed to the source.
