Recipient Update Service does not make proxy addresses after parent administrative group rename (329610)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q329610 SYMPTOMS
After you rename the administrative group that contains the Exchange 2000 Server-based computer on which the Recipient Update service is running:
- The Recipient Update service may not generate proxy addresses for any new mailbox-enabled users you create in Active Directory Users and Computers.
- The Recipient Update service may stop.
CAUSE
The Recipient Update service uses the name of the administrative group that it references at startup. Because of this, when the name of the administrative group is changed, the Recipient Update service cannot identify the administrative group by its new name.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, restart the Exchange 2000 Server-based computer on which the Recipient Update service is running. When you do so, the Recipient Update service restarts, correctly identifies the administrative group, and then updates the attributes of any new or modified mailbox-enabled and mail-enabled objects in Active Directory.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
