XADM: Stores Do Not Mount After You Change the System Path Location to the Root Folder of a Drive (329602)

If you change the system path location of a storage group to the root folder of a drive, Exchange may not be able to mount the store, and you may receive the following error message:
An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Service, or both.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use a location other than the root folder of a drive for the system path location. Note that the default folder for the system path is the drive_letter:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata folder, where drive_letter is the boot drive.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
