XADM: Cannot Create Mailboxes for Existing Users After You Install the Exchange 2000 ADC (329511)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q329511

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Exchange 2000 version of Active Directory Connector (ADC), you cannot create mailboxes for existing users until you deploy at least one Exchange 2000 server.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you did not run the ForestPrep utility. After you install the Exchange 2000 version of ADC, you must run the Exchange 2000 ForestPrep utility on your organization to extend the schema in Active Directory before you can create mailboxes for existing users again.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, run the Exchange 2000 ForestPrep utility after you install the Exchange 2000 version of ADC.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, continue to use the Microsoft Windows 2000 version of ADC until you are prepared to run the ForestPrep utility.

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows 2000 version of ADC extends the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) so that administrators can perform basic mailbox management for Exchange Server 5.5 users. If you right-click the user in Active Directory Users and Computers, you can click menu commands such as Add Exchange Mailbox and Delete Exchange Mailbox to create mailboxes for existing users in Active Directory (provided you have correctly configured a recipient Connection Agreement).

The Exchange 2000 version of ADC extends and enhances this functionality. When you right-click the users, you can click the Exchange Tasks menu command to create mailboxes for existing users in Active Directory.
