ERROR SIGNATURE

This article describes a problem in which Microsoft Word 2002 unexpectedly stops responding, which can have the following error signature:
   App Name      App Version      Module Name      Module Version    Offset
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
   Winword.exe   10.0.2627.0      Msgrnl32.dll     7.0.0.0           00007e73 
		
where <version> is later than or equal to 6.0.1911.0.

SYMPTOMS

If you click Spelling and Grammar on the Tools menu in one of the Microsoft Word programs listed at the beginning of this article, the program may stop responding (hang) and you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the error listed at the beginning of this article.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you install Microsoft Office with the Microsoft Office Proofing Tools for the Dutch language, and then install Microsoft Works or Microsoft Project with the proofing tools for the Dutch language.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, repair Office .

To repair Office XP:
  1. Quit all of the programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Office XP installation, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. In the Office XP Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
  6. In the Reinstall/Repair Office XP dialog box, click to select the Repair errors in my Office installation button, and then click Finish.
  7. When the Office XP repair is completed, you may receive a prompt to restart Windows. If receive the prompt, click Yes, and then permit Microsoft Windows to restart.
Repair Office 2000:
  1. Close all programs that are open.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
  6. In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click to select Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Finish.
  7. When the Office Repair is finished, you may be prompted to restart Windows. If you are, click Yes and let Windows restart.

The Office Error Reporting dialog box appears when an error occurs that results in a fatal event in the program. The dialog box includes a button to send the information about the fatal event to Microsoft. Microsoft gathers information about these types of events in a database to attempt to identify the cause.
