"Service Pack 1 Setup Canceled" Error Message When You Install Windows XP SP1 (329261)

When you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message:
Service Pack 1 Setup Error
Service Pack 1 Setup canceled.
Then, the installation process quits, and a message similar to the following may appear in the SP1 installation log:
Service Pack started with following command line:

InstallFromFunction call in inf section "BuildType.DirId" failed.
***
Failed Deleting C:\WINDOWS\system32\jvminst.tmp 2
***
Service Pack 1 Setup canceled.

NOTE: To view the SP1 installation log, open the following log file in a text editor, such as Notepad:
CAUSE
This issue may occur if the Licdll.dll or Regwizc.dll files are unregistered. Microsoft has confirmed that the XP-AntiSpy program unregisters these Windows files and causes this problem. XP-AntiSpy is a freeware program that can disable features in Windows XP, including the Automatic Updates feature. If you use the XP-AntiSpy program to disable Windows XP features, you may not be able to install Windows XP SP1.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regsvr32.exe licdll.dll, and then click OK.
- You should receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in licdll.dll succeeded.
- Click OK.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll, and then click OK.
- You should receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in regwizc.dll succeeded.
- Click OK, and then continue with the installation of SP1.
NOTE: You can safely use this procedure to resolve this issue even if XP-AntiSpy is not installed on your computer.
