XADM: The Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 Version of Mailbox Manager Creates an Additional System Cleanup Folder (329257)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP3
This article was previously published under Q329257 SYMPTOMS
If you use Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3), Mailbox Manager may create an additional System Cleanup folder.
If a Mailbox Manager recipient policy is configured with the Move to System Cleanup folders option, when Mailbox Manager processes a mailbox, Mailbox Manager creates a partial replica of the mailbox folder hierarchy in a System Cleanup folder, and then moves messages that exceed policy limits to their respective folders. Microsoft Outlook clients display a System Cleanup Folders folder in the mailbox folder hierarchy.
When you upgrade Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2000 SP3, Mailbox Manager creates a partial replica of the mailbox folder hierarchy in a System Cleanup folder. Outlook clients display a System Cleanup folder in the mailbox folder hierarchy and also display the pre-Exchange 2000 SP3 System Cleanup Folders folder.
If Mailbox Manager was not configured before you upgraded to Exchange 2000 SP3, the Outlook clients do not display the System Cleanup Folders folder in the mailbox folder hierarchy. Outlook clients display only the System Cleanup folders.
After you upgrade from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2000 SP3, the System Cleanup folder is used.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, have users move the contents of the System Cleanup Folders folder to the new System Cleanup folder that is created after you upgrade to Exchange 2000 SP3:
- Start Outlook, and then make sure that the view is set to Folder List. If it is not, click Folder List on the View menu. Two folders are listed: the System Cleanup folder and the System Cleanup Folders folder.
- Right-click the System Cleanup Folders folder, and then click Move "System Cleanup Folders".
- Click the System Cleanup folder, and then click OK.
The System Cleanup Folders folder is listed under the System Cleanup folder. NOTE: If you want to, you can also follow these steps to move individual folders that are under the System Cleanup Folders folder.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
