This article was previously published under Q329254 SYMPTOMS After you set up a wireless network by using the hardware
that is listed at the beginning of this article, each computer may display a
different wireless signal strength value in the Microsoft Broadband Network
Utility (BNU), regardless of proximity to other wireless hardware on the
network. This behavior can occur in either a peer-to-peer (or ad-hoc) network
configuration or an infrastructure network configuration. CAUSE This behavior occurs because the wireless signal strength
value that appears in the BNU is calculated from the signal strength and signal
quality that is received by the network card. It is a measure of the reception
quality, not a measure of the bidirectional link quality.
This
behavior is expected. The symptoms that are described in this article do not
indicate a problem with your wireless hardware or with the BNU. Because of
variations in the transmitters and environmental factors, it is unlikely that
the signal strengths on the wireless network cards will be exactly the same.
