SYMPTOMS
After you install either the hotfixes or the Systems
Management Server (SMS) Hotfix Rollup Package (HRP) that are described in the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles, client computers that are running
either Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 may no longer receive
advertisements:
Q316868 SMS: Advertisements Do Not Start When a User Logs On
Q321168 SMS: Advertisements for a User or User Group Can Run Again
323206 SMS: List of Bugs Fixed in the Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 4 Hotfix Rollup Package
This problem only affects SMS clients that use the
Novell Client for Netware and do not have the Client for Microsoft Networks
installed.
You may receive the following message in the Odpwnt9x.log
file:
ACCOUNT MGR : No Microsoft Network
Provider
IPC ODP : No Windows Networking logon detected
IPC ODP :
OPD failed to initialise properly. Calling SendODPDone.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is
now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem
that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are
experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing.
Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Systems Management Server service pack
that contains this hotfix.

The English version of
this fix for SMS 2.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) sites has the file attributes (or
later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these
files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file
information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC
and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
