PowerPoint, you may receive the following error message: Can't display the template used in this document. Windows
Installer error 1605. CAUSE This problem may occur if registry keys that are generated
by Microsoft Windows Installer are corrupted.RESOLUTIONWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To
resolve this problem, follow these steps: Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps.
- Back up all your data.
- Download and install the Microsoft Windows Installer Clean
Up utility.

Description of the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility
- Click Start, click Run,
type regedit in the Open box, and then
press ENTER.
- Locate, and then expand the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products - Click the first GUID under this registry key.
- In the right pane, double-click Product
Name, and then write down the name of the product that is listed in
the Value data box.
- Click OK to close the Edit
String dialog box.
- Repeat steps 5 through 7 for each GUID in the
list.
- Locate, and then expand the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products - Click the first GUID in the list under this registry
key.
- In the right pane, double-click Product
Name, and then write down the name of the product that is listed in
the Value data box.
- Click OK to close the Edit
String dialog box.
- Repeat steps 10 through 12 for each GUID in the
list.
- Examine the list of product names that you created in steps
6 and 11, and then verify that you have the media or Web sites available that
you will need to reinstall the products.
- Click Start, point to
Settings, point to Control Panel, and then
click Add/Remove Programs.
- For each product on your list, follow these steps:
- Click the product name in the Currently
installed programs list.
- Click Remove or
Change/Remove.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to remove the
product.
- Click Start, click Run,
type cmd in the Open box, and then
press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type path c:\Program
Files\Windows Installer Clean Up; %path%, and then press
ENTER.
Note The "%" characters are part of the command. This syntax preserves
the existing directory path. - Type msizap.exe *! ALLPRODUCTS, and
then press ENTER. This step removes all the Microsoft Windows Installer
keys.
- Restart your computer, and then reinstall all the programs
that you removed in step 16.
