LsaLookupNames API Is Unsuccessful for Domain Names That End with a Period (327973)

SYMPTOMS

If the name to be looked up contains a domain name that ends with a trailing period, LsaLookupNames API returns 0xC0000073 (STATUS_NONE_MAPPED). For example, the lookup for mydomain.com\user1 succeeds, but mydomain.com.\user1 does not succeeds.

CAUSE

LsaLookupNames handles domain names that end with a period incorrectly.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.
