The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q327727

SYMPTOMS

If the DualView feature is turned on for an external CRT monitor, the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display option may appear dimmed (and is therefore unavailable) for the external monitor.

The problem has been observed only on portable computers that use an ATI video card and driver.

CAUSE

After you extend the desktop, Windows XP may not call the DrvGetModes function to obtain the modes that the ATI driver can display for the external monitor. Therefore, the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display option for the external monitor is not available.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, close the Display Properties window, and then reopen it. The Hide modes that this monitor cannot display option should now be available (no longer appears dimmed).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION
