A stop error occurs when you have installed many programs that use filter drivers in Windows 2000 (327632)
The information in this article applies to:

- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q327632 SYMPTOMSWhen you modify the real-time or the auto-protect settings
of an antivirus program, or when you run a real-time file system protection
program on the same computer where an antivirus program is running, the
computer may stop responding and generate a stop error. CAUSEThis problem may occur when you have installed two or more
programs that use filter drivers. Typically, you experience this problem when
you have an antivirus program that is running a form of real-time protection.
However, this problem does not occur only with antivirus programs.
After the Ntfs.sys driver creates an object, the driver determines
the remaining size of the stack. When you have two or more filter drivers that
are running, the stack size of the Ntfs.sys driver decreases rapidly. When the
Ntfs.sys driver tries to create a new object, and there is not sufficient stack
space available, a stack overflow occurs and causes a stop error.
