OL2002: Outlook Stops Responding If You Have Service Pack 2 Installed When You Open the Inbox While Using a Hotmail Profile (327631)

SYMPTOMS

If you open a Microsoft MSN Hotmail profile, and then click your Inbox folder in Outlook 2002 SP-2 while you are using the Microsoft Office XP Multilingual User Interface Pack that was installed with Microsoft Outlook 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP-1), Outlook 2002 may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • Your system locale is not set to English.
  • Your user interface language in Microsoft Office XP Language Settings is not set to English.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the Microsoft Office XP Update: Service Pack 2 (SP-2) for Office XP Multilingual User Interface Pack when it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, completely remove Microsoft Office XP, and then reinstall it without applying Service Pack 2.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
