  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q327601

SYMPTOMS

If you start Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Administrator Console on a remote computer, you may receive the following error message:
Failed to connect to the database on 'xxxxxx'. Class not registered. 0x80040154:

Failed to retrieve the DAS server name Class not registered Result code: 80040154
Alternatively, you may receive a "Snap-in failed to initialize" error message and MOM Administrator Console may quit.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you use MOM 2000 Administrator Console to connect to a MOM 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) database. After you apply SP1, changes to the database force the removal of the Data Access Service (DAS) Locator Common Object Model (COM) object. MOM 2000 Administrator Console uses this object to connect successfully to the database.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, upgrade MOM Administrator Console on the remote computer to the version that is included in MOM 2000 SP1.
