The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q327592

SYMPTOMS

When you programmatically close a message item in the ItemSend event, Microsoft Word stops responding (crashes), and you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Outlook automation code is used to trap the Application_ItemSend event, and if you use Word as your e-mail editor when you compose the message item.

Microsoft does not recommend that you close a message item in its own ItemSend event. The ItemSend event was not designed (or tested) to be used in this manner.
