SUMMARY

The order that you use to insert a storage card in the expansion pack, handheld device, or Pocket PC device does not determine the storage name that the Microsoft Windows CE operating system assigns when you save a file.

MORE INFORMATION

When you insert a storage card (for example, either a Compact Flash card or a Secure Data card) in a Pocket PC device or handheld device, the Windows CE operating system assigns a temporary identification that is retained until you remove the storage card from the system.
Identification is assigned in the following pattern:
  1. Storage card 1.
  2. Storage card 2.
  3. Storage card 3.

Note If you remove and then reinsert the card, the cards that remain are not renamed. The card that you reinsert is renamed.

Storage identification names are not assigned by location. The internal docking port is the slot on the Pocket PC device itself. Internal docking port numbers are assigned first, according to the order that you use to insert the storage cards in the Pocket PC or handheld device. The storage number is assigned to the storage card, not to the port where it resides.
