XADM: Store.exe Process Causes 99-100 Percent CPU Utilization (327332)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q327332

SYMPTOMS

The Store.exe process may cause 99-100 percent CPU utilization. After this problem occurs, CPU utilization remains at this rate.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions exist:
  • The Computer Associates International "eTrust InoculateIT" version 6 antivirus program is installed on your Exchange 2000 Server-based computer.
  • The "eTrust InoculateIT" program is configured to log file activity.
  • The log file has reached its maximum size limit.
Under these conditions, Store.exe unsuccessfully tries to record new activity in the log file.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
  • Turn off the file activity logs in the "eTrust InoculateIT" program. For information about how to do so, view the documentation that is included with the "eTrust InoculateIT" program.
  • Remove the eTrust log file(s) from the following location:

    \\servername\Progra~1\CA\eTrust\InoculateIT\DB\InXO000.LOG <file:///\\servername\Progra~1\CA\eTrust\InoculateIT\DB\InXO000.LOG>

Then increase the maximum log file size through the eTrust InoculateIT Realtime Mail Options. To do so:
    1. Right-click the Realtime Monitor task icon, and then click Mail Options.
    2. Click the Log tab, and then set the maximum log file size to be larger than the default log file size.
Note Settings that limit the size of log files may cause a problem with Store.exe. Log files may appear to archive correctly when the size limit is reached, but the Exchange Agent for eTrust InoculateIT can still affect your mail store. To resolve this issue:
    1. Remove the log files.
    2. Increase the log file size to 100 megabytes (MB).
    3. Restart the CA eTrust services.
You may also have to restart your server.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem may occur after a routine update to a virus signature file such as those below virsig.da0 Version 23.62 Build Number 68 Build Date 10/10/03.
