FIX: The Distribution Agent Might Shut Down with a Syntax Error or Queued Updating Subscribers Might Become Unsynchronized (327289)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions)

This article was previously published under Q327289
BUG #: 361403 (SHILOH_BUGS)

SYMPTOMS

The problem that occurs is data dependent; however, it can show up in one of the following two ways:
  • The Distribution Agent shuts down when it tries to apply a compensating command to a queued updating subscriber, and you receive the following error message:
Line %d: Incorrect syntax near '%.*ls'.
    -or-

  • The Distribution Agent does not fail; however, the queued updating subscriber may become unsynchronized with the Publisher. In that case, the conflict losing row is deleted from the subscriber and it is not replaced with the publisher's version of the row.
To experience this problem, the following conditions must be true:
  • The publication must be configured to allow queued updating subscribers.
  • The publication must be configured for "publisher wins" conflict resolution.
  • A conflict occurred.

CAUSE

Under certain circumstances, there is a problem with the way compensating commands are generated to replace the conflict losing rows at the Subscriber with the conflict winning rows from the Publisher.
