FIX: Nmake Returns Success (0) in Failure Condition When You Use Targets in Multiple Description Blocks (327246)

SYMPTOMS

When you use nmake with the /k switch to continue a build after one part fails, and both of the following conditions apply
  • you use a target that has multiple description blocks
    -and-
  • a failure occurs on one, but not all, of the multiple description blocks
nmake returns 0 instead of 1.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Visual Studio 6.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
