SMS: Remote Client Installation May Not Work with Windows Server 2003 or Software Inventory May Not Work (327189)

SYMPTOMS

Systems Management Server (SMS) remote client installations on computers that are running Windows Server 2003 may sporadically not work. Also, clients that are installed successfully (by using a manual installation) may experience problems with software inventory.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to Windows Server 2003-based computers on which you want to install SMS clients by using Remote Client Installation.

To resolve this problem, contact your Windows Server 2003 JDP Program Manager for information about how to obtain the hotfix.

To Install by Using the Hotfix Installer

  1. Copy the hotfix program file (Q327189.exe) to a local folder on your computer or to a share on your network.
  2. Run the Q327189.exe file and follow the instructions.
  3. Restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
