SMS: Remote Client Installation May Not Work with Windows Server 2003 or Software Inventory May Not Work (327189)

This article was previously published under Q327189 SYMPTOMS Systems Management Server (SMS) remote client installations
on computers that are running Windows Server 2003 may sporadically not work.
Also, clients that are installed successfully (by using a manual installation)
may experience problems with software inventory.
RESOLUTION A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is
only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply
it only to Windows Server 2003-based computers on which you want to install SMS
clients by using Remote Client Installation. To resolve this
problem, contact your Windows Server 2003 JDP Program Manager for information
about how to obtain the hotfix. NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for
support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines
that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question.
The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or
later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these
files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file
information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC
and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To Install by Using the Hotfix Installer- Copy the hotfix program file (Q327189.exe) to a local
folder on your computer or to a share on your network.
- Run the Q327189.exe file and follow the
instructions.
- Restart your computer.

at the beginning of this article.
