The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queue Server (MSMQ) 1.0

This article was previously published under Q327075

SUMMARY

After you upgrade a client computer running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition to run Windows XP, MSMQ fails if both of the following are true:
  • The computer running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition uses a Windows NT 4.0 MSMQ site controller.
  • The computer running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Millennium Edition belongs to a Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 domain.

MORE INFORMATION

After the upgrade, programs on the client computer receive the following error message:
MQ_ERROR_MACHINE_NOT_FOUND (0xC00E000D): The computer specified cannot be found.
In the registry hive HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters\MachineCache, the value MQISServer specifies a Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 domain controller and not the Windows NT 4.0 MSMQ site controller.

To resolve this problem, remove MSMQ from the client computer running Windows XP, and then reinstall it to use the Windows NT 4.0 MSMQ site controller. To perform this installation, you must use an Unattend.txt file to specify the Windows NT 4.0 MSMQ site controller.
