PPT2000: File Name Extensions Are Missing When You Send Your Presentation As an E-mail Attachment If You Use ODMA (327042)

SYMPTOMS

When you send your PowerPoint presentation as an attachment in an e-mail message (on the File menu, point to Send to, and then click Mail Recipient (as Attachment), the .ppt extension may be missing from the file name of your attached presentation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you open the presentation from an Open Document Management API (ODMA) program. In this scenario, PowerPoint does not add .ppt to the file name of the attachment when it retrieves the file name from the ODMA interface.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

This fix should have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
