OL2000: "Cannot Locate the Recurrence Information..." Error Message When You Open a Recurring Meeting, Appointment, or Event (326981)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a recurring meeting, appointment, or event, you may receive the following error message
Cannot locate the recurrence information for "Subject"
where Subject is the name of your meeting, appointment, or event as you typed it in the Subject box when you scheduled the recurring meeting, appointment, or event. This symptom occurs if you add a Calendar Label (Calendar Coloring) to the recurring meeting, appointment, or event. When you try to open the recurring meeting, appointment, or event in Outlook 2000, Outlook does not know how to interpret the calendar label.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office 2000 service pack that contains this fix.

After the hotfix is installed, the English version of this fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

This fix is a post-Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) fix. To install the fix, you must have Office 2000 SP-3 installed. For additional information about Office 2000 SP-3, click the following article number to see the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To temporarily work around this problem when you open the recurring meeting, appointment, or event in Outlook 2000, do not use a Calendar Label in Outlook 2002. To remove a Calendar Label:
  1. Open your recurring meeting, appointment, or event in Outlook 2002.
  2. On the Appointment tab, click None in the Label box.
  3. Click Save and Close to save the changes to your recurring meeting, appointment, or event.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The fix that is described in the "Resolution" section of this article makes it possible for Outlook 2000 to parse the calendar label so the recurring meeting, appointment, or event opens in Outlook 2000. The fix does not add Calendar Labels (Calendar Coloring) to Outlook 2000.
