Cannot Delete Providers That Were Previously Assigned to a Processing Rule Group (326974)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
This article was previously published under Q326974 SYMPTOMS
After you specify providers for Microsoft Operations Manager, assign the providers to a processing rule group, and then try to remove a provider from the processing rule group, you receive the following warning message:
The provider cannot be deleted because it is used by one or more processing rules.
This occurs even though no processing rule groups are currently using the provider.
CAUSE
After a provider is added to a processing rule group, you can remove the provider only if you delete the whole processing rule group.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you must temporarily remove the whole processing rule group. To make sure that you maintain the existing processing rule group, follow these steps:
- Remove the rules that are related to the provider that you want to delete.
- Back up the existing processing rule group, by exporting the Management Pack.
- After you back up and save the processing rule group, remove the processing rule group.
- Remove the provider.
- Restore the Management Pack with the removed rule or rules.
- To confirm the changes, commit the rules.
